Dr. El Asaleh is an accomplished Associate Professor of Graphic Communications Management at The Creative School at Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) (formerly known as Ryerson) in Canada. She has received a prestigious award and recognition for her teaching contribution to the field of graphic communications. She is a member of TMU’s graduate studies under the Master of the Digital Media Program and PhD in Media and Design Innovation Programs within The Creative School.

With her expertise in computer science and graphic communication, Dr. El Asaleh has led several research projects that have addressed critical issues in the graphic arts industry. Her work has been published in top-tier academic journals and technical conference proceedings. Dr. El Asaleh’s research interests include emerging pre-media technologies, digital asset management, and colour and imaging science.

Lee Eldridge has led the advanced technologies (Interactive Solutions) department at North America’s most award-winning print communications company, CJ Graphics Inc., for 15+ years. He and his team apply cutting-edge technologies to real-world print, marketing and communication challenges.He also served as Associate Editor for Designedge, the Canadian trade magazine for Graphic Designers, focusing on emerging tools and technologies for the design community. He frequently writes on AI-powered tools and integrations and is always working to find new and innovative automation solutions for partners and customers.

Tyler Thompson is a highly regarded thought leader in AI technology for the printing and packaging industry. With a M.Sc. degree in Computer Science and B.Sc. degree from Clemson University’s Packaging program, he helps companies worldwide employ AI for print production planning.

Summary: Printed electronics (PE) are a fast-growing market as their applications cover a large range of industrial needs, their production cost is low and the additive printing techniques consume less materials than subtractive manufacturing methods used in traditional electronics. ICI specializes in the scale up of innovative technology using traditional printing processes with a focus on industrial, electronic and environmental performances of its printed electronic devices. This presentation shows a case study of the lab to press of a functional printed smart label.

Mirko Torres completed his bachelor’s degree in chemistry at the University of Montreal and subsequently obtained his D.E.S.S. (Specialized Graduate Diploma) in Environmental and Industrial Analytical Chemistry. Following an internship at the ICI in summer 2021 focusing on the valorization of flexographic plates production waste, he now works as an environmental project manager at ICI.
